[Boston – 31 January 2020] The City of Burlington, in collaboration with Opendatasoft, officially launched its data sharing portal. The portal is an integral part of a larger open data strategy for the city to proactively share data and champion innovation.

The City of Burlington’s data portal makes it easier to view, obtain, and use the information the city has gathered. It allows users to view, combine, export, and share data under the city’s open data license. The datasets are provided in multiple formats, including APIs and can be visualized in charts, graphs and tables.

We believe that the power of open data will help drive innovation, increase civic participation, and improve how the city serves our residents. The new open data portal, hosted on Opendatasoft, will provide a more efficient, user-friendly way for people to access city data. Our hope is that by making certain city data open, it will spark opportunities for data analysts, entrepreneurs and technology developers to imagine innovative services,” said Carolyn Felix, BTVStat Analyst.

The open data portal already includes more than 35 live datasets, classified in 8 broad topics ranging from City Management and Financials, Arts and Culture, Economy and Community, Energy and Environment and Housing and Permitting. Following this first release of data, the city is planning to continuously roll our new datasets as soon as they become available and are ready to be explored by residents and businesses alike.

Burlington’s new open data policy and platform are foundational steps that provide better insights for residents into the city’s work and offer new ways for city departments to share and use data in ways that can save time, save money, and foster collaboration on projects that involve teams from across the City,” said Chief Innovation Officer Brian Lowe.

This is only the beginning of Burlington’s data sharing journey and Opendatasoft is looking forward to working with the city all along the way to best leverage its data. “We are delighted to work with the City of Burlington! The city’s teams have done such a great job at publishing impactful datasets from the early stages of the project. We are excited to see how the city will harness our solution to further develop its open data policy,” said Franck Carassus, Co-Founder and CEO North America at Opendatasoft.
