Opendatasoft launches Open Data America, a first-of-its-kind initiative to release data portals for over 500 cities across the United States.
October 23, 2017 - BOSTON - Today, Opendatasoft launched Open Data America, a first-of-its-kind initiative to release data portals for over 500 cities across the United States.
Opendatasoft’s core mission is to help governments use data to be more efficient, innovative, transparent and accountable. Open Data America was developed to give municipal officials a cutting-edge tool to help open their data, expand their community of data users and co-create innovative civic solutions.
“We’re thrilled to kick off this initiative and help cities across the U.S. achieve their transparency and integrity goals, as we did for Chapel Hill, and Cary in North Carolina. We’re excited to see how 500 cities will use their ready-made portals, and we hope to work with them directly to tailor the portals to their civic needs” said Franck Carassus, co-founder and COO at Opendatasoft.
Opendatasoft, in collaboration with Amazon Web Services (AWS), developed an open data portal for each of these 500+ cities to help their administrations, elected officials and citizens better understand open data. Here are just some of the stakeholders that the Open Data America portals are designed to help:
Opendatasoft selected pertinent open datasets for each city and town to create each portal. Each Open Data America portal collects this customized array of locally relevant datasets in one place, where they can be easily manipulated, merged, analyzed and visualized using the powerful Opendatasoft platform.
Subscriptions to Opendatasoft’s Open Data America portals are available through the AWS Marketplace. The AWS Marketplace is an online store that helps customers discover, purchase, migrate and immediately begin using the software and services they need to build products and run their businesses.
“We are excited to have Opendatasoft in AWS Marketplace, delivering our customers a free data portal for over 500 cities across America. We look forward to seeing how our customers leverage data portals like this one to launch civic initiatives that improve their respective communities,” said Barry Russell, General Manager, WW Business and Channel Operations, AWS Marketplace and Service Catalog at Amazon Web Services (AWS), Inc
"As a global software platform specializing in making data open, transparent and actionable, Opendatasoft is especially proud of the Open Data America initiative. “We have seen firsthand how much a city can accomplish for its community using open data. We are excited to bring these opportunities to such a large set of American cities, towns and counties", said Franck Carassus.
Opendatasoft creates data portals for cities, local governments and companies of all sizes. Its open data platform is fast to ramp-up and intuitive to use, and transforms data into civic services without requiring technical expertise. Headquartered in Boston, MA, and Paris, France, Opendatasoft already powers open data portals for many municipalities and agencies worldwide - including the North Carolina Department of Commerce, the City of Paris, the Ministry of Health in Portugal and the Swiss National Railways.
